  • August 2002- August 2008: PhD student in Marine Sciences/Microbial Ecology, University of Georgia
  • February 2001-May 2002: PhD student in Microbial Ecology. Studied methanotrophic bacteria in marsh sediments at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. I transferred to The University of Georgia in the Summer of 2002.  
  • Fall 1999-Fall 2000: Visiting Graduate Research Fellow, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem Division of Molecular and Microbial Ecology, Jerusalem, Israel. Studied EmrE, a small E. coli membrane multidrug transporter, under the supervision of Dr. Shimon Schuldiner.   
  • Summer 1999: Research SCUBA diver, Florida Marine Research Institute, Marathon, FL. Student Conservation Association intern. Assisted in Queen Conch and Spiny Lobster research along the Florida Keys.  
  • Fall 1996-Spring 1999: Research Assistant, Rosenstiel Basic Medical Sciences Research Center, Brandeis University. Assisted with research in Dr. Joan Press’ immunology laboratory and conducted independent research for senior thesis investigating somatic mutation in neonates and immune response diversification.     
  • Summer, 1998: Work/Learn Intern, Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, Edgewater, MD. Contributed to longterm laboratory research and fieldwork in Dr. Thomas Jordan’s Nutrient Lab and conducted individual molecular ecology research investigating microbial denitrifiers in riparian forest soils.    
  • Fall 1993-Spring 1995: Research Assistant, SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn, Brooklyn, N.Y. Completed a project for the 54th Annual Westinghouse (now Intel) Science Talent Search in an cell biology/pathology laboratory involving the development of a novel culture method for pancreatic epithelial cells under the supervision of Dr. Josef Michl.
